Good morning everyone. I hope you’re all doing well. Today I’m going to be sharing a few books that I’d like to read by Black authors that feature a f/f romance.
The main reason I wanted to do this was because during the Queer Blackathon readathon, I was really in the mood to read a F/F romance! But I tried to look up books that have that and I just couldn’t seem to find any. I found a list of books with lesbian characters, but I was hoping for a more broad collection than just featuring lesbian characters.
So I’m going to share with you all a few that I would like to read. I have an honorable mention in this collection as well because I’m currently reading it.
Let’s get right into this. And don’t forget to comment down below if you have any other recommendations.
I’ve been reading too many hetero romances. I need to change that up. I’m going to start with what I’m in the mood for and that’s some women love. I am definitely looking for any sort of sexually diverse reads, but try to keep the comments focused on just ones with f/f romances. If you have any other recommendations, then let me know in my DMs on either Instagram or Twitter (both @mandathebibleo).
I think one of my biggest issues is that I’m not looking for a smutty or erotic book. I just want some sweet romance between two ladies. But it seems like most of the ones I find are not that.
All of the “buy this book” links are through Bookshop and Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books bookstore. It’s the shop that I support when buying books. Feel free to get these books from any independent bookstore, but I highly highly advise to support independent bookstores over Amazon or other large companies.
Let’s start with the honorable mention that I have.
You Should See Me in a Crown is about a high school senior who had her college planned out until she was told that she was denied for the scholarship that was going to help her pay for the university she wanted to go to. So she decides to run for prom queen and win the prize scholarship to help pay for her dream school. But there’s a new girl at the school who is also running alongside the main character. Feelings start to bloom between them and that makes things even harder when running for prom queen in a town that doesn’t even allow same sex couple to go to prom together.
I am LOVING this story. I’m loving the relationship between these two and I can’t wait to see where else it goes and what other topics are discussed. I have a feeling I know how it’s going to end, but I’m not going to say anything.
A Song Below Water tells the story of two lady sirens falling in love. It follows two best friends, one of which is a siren hiding her powers and the other that is fighting her own demons, as they struggle through school. But that struggle is only made worse when a siren is murdered and Tavia reveals that she is a siren.
I think that this book is going to be freaking amazing. I love sirens so I was sold on it immediately anyway. But add in some romance between two girls and I’m so here for this book. I can’t wait to start reading it.
The Stars and the Blackness Between Them is a story that’s been on my radar since I first heard about it! This follows a romance between a girl who is sent to live in America from Trinidad after being caught with the pastor’s daughter and her dad’s best friend’s daughter. There’s mention of the best friend’s daughter being sick all summer, so I don’t exactly where this story is going to go in that sense, but I’m really excited about it.
ˆShe Slipped and Fell tells of a romance between best friends as they discover their feelings and what that could mean.
I’m kind of nervous about this one. I don’t know how I’m going to feel about it, but I’m really interested in seeing how it goes. It came out in 2008 and I hadn’t heard about it before looking up titles with f/f romances. Hopefully I enjoy it.
This one isn’t available through Bookshop, so the “buy this book” is through Amazon where you can get this kindle version for $3.
Once Ghosted, Twice Shy is one that popped up a couple times and I knew I wanted to read it, but I’ve been putting it off because it’s the novella after the second book in this Alyssa Cole romance series. I’m working on reading the first and I’m really excited to continue to this book.
The Weight of Stars is one that I’m nervous about as well. Not because of the subject matter or I think I’m not going to like the story, but there’s a hint of sci-fi in it and I’m not a sci-fi lover. But I want to give it a change.
This tells the story of a girl who wants to be an astronaut but has given into the idea that she can’t because of her lifestyle and the daughter of an astronaut who volunteered to travel to the edge of the universe.
Okay! That’s going to be it for this post. I really hope you all give me more recommendations. I would love to do a recommendations post or another “books I want to read” post about Black F/F romances! I just hope to find more. Let me know of some upcoming ones and backlist ones.
I hope you all enjoyed this post and I hope you decided to stick around and follow me! Thanks so much for joining me. I’ll see you all very soon with my next post.
